If you've given meditation a try and couldn't get on with it, why not try a moving meditation instead?
Yoga in all its forms is a pretty traditional moving meditation, but I'd suggest that there are a whole lot of activities which could fall into this category, really dependent upon the interests of the individual.
For some, it's craft work (needlework, knitting, quilting) whilst for others it could be sculpture, painting, drawing. For others, it might be wholly physical, biking, running, swimming etc.
For you it could be dance, singing, walking the dog, cake decorating, surfing, scuba diving, rock-climbing: truly, the world is your oyster. The main stipulation is that it is an activity in which you can lose yourself, escape the present moment and just focus on something else for a while. They say that a change is as good as a rest and this is one of the great ways we can achieve that day to day without much conscious effort.
For me, it's gardening, cooking and mountain-biking, all things which take me out of myself, give me space, allow me to change my mood and my environment.
It's easy, when you're busy, to forget about the benefits of taking time for simple pleasures such as these, but the benefits in terms of well-being are not to be underestimated.
