All Time Worst Advice from Doctors

If you've sought diagnosis of PCOS or simply tried to ask what's wrong with you, earnestly listing a range of symptoms which have been really upsetting you, and got an unsympathetic answer, you'll know what I mean. You've probably got stories of your own.

Here's my picks of the worst pieces of advice I've ever been given:

1. Stop stuffing things in your mouth.  (GP) Clever,  inciteful or plain stupid? You decide.  Worse because this guy had seen me train in the gym and run circuits,  regularly.

2. I could put you forward for a gastric band. (Consultant Specialist).  Idiot. What better way to fix a stressed body than by cutting holes out of it?

3. Go home,  there's nothing wrong with you,  you just have to accept that you're fatter than other peopleSome people are fatter than others. (Endocrine Specialist).  Totally ambivalent to the problem. Also tried to convince me that it was my fault because people in factories in the industrial revolution weren't fat (no shit, they also had rickets and a life expectancy of around 30 years old...)

There's my top three folks.

And to add a cheeky fourth: a chap who was actually quite helpful but who threw this one in:

I said: I drink too much to be honest
Dr said: Well you're clearly not doing a good enough job as most alcoholics are thin.  Inaccurate and unhelpful.

Is it any wonder that there are too many horror stories of people not getting the treatment they deserve or the help they need.

These are my personal examples, I'd love to hear your stories.  I'm sure there are loads!
