About Libby

Hi I'm Libby,

Thanks for visiting my blog! I'm glad you stopped by.

I'm not a medical professional, and I've never constructed a blog before, I'm just an ordinary woman: I'm an IT Consultant, living and working in the UK. I'm 40 years old, I have pretty normal life.

If  you'd told me 20 years ago that I'd be writing on women's health issues, I'd have thought you were crazy, but then again, I never intended to be in the position or to suffer with the problems I outline here.

I constructed this blog because I have never found any resources which accurately describe the condition I have, and I have done significant research in order to draw that conclusion. I know I'm not the only one with the same problems. I want to share my findings.

The blog is the culmination of 15 years frustration, tears, self-experiments and of fighting to get answers.

I spent 10 years struggling with weight gain that I couldn't control despite a very strict diet and intensive exercise. I also suffered with insomnia, significant gastro-intestinal issues and a host of other symptoms that I couldn't explain.  Eventually I decided that enough was enough and that I had to do something about my condition.

It turns out that I, like many others, have a syndrome which causes these problems but there is no research and no significant treatment. It is not recognised by the NHS.

I was told for years that I was either making up my symptoms, lying about what I ate and the amount I ate, was delusional or just plain stupid. I am none of those things. This syndrome is real, it is affecting many lives, and those lives are made significantly worse by the extra concern brought by having a disease which no-one can explain to you. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started this, but here we are.

Many women are like me, and yet the only resources available to women are either inaccurate, offer the wrong advice or simply aim to mask the physical symptoms of the condition. Nothing gets to the root causes, treats the underlying syndrome or seeks to heal. This must be changed if we are to move forward and improve the lives of women suffering long-term.

Why should you read my blog? Because I feel I have answers that others don't. I'm no different to any other woman but I'm single minded. I refuse to take NO for an answer and I won't give up. I have developed strategies which I know will help others and they deserve to be shared.

I hope I can help.

Every page has space for your comments and I look forward to hearing your feedback, whether it's feedback on strategies you've tried, questions or counter arguments. My experiments have been carried out on myself and this is my hypothesis - a lot more research is needed. I'm interested to hear your stories. There is a long way to go in understanding this condition fully and the more input we have, the more we can move forward.

Happy Reading!
