Sensible Weight Loss Advice (at last!)

Having experienced just about every diet on the planet, and been a guinea pig for far more treatments, supplements and weight-loss schemes, I'm not one for diets.

My view is that they are normally more harm than good, many suggest near starvation rations, and others simply cut out the good stuff in favour of meal-replacements, shakes and other cheats which I believe the body is unable to recognise as food.

I was surprised, therefore to read a new book this week which is full of sensible, measured and mature advice which it would do anyone good to heed.

As you know, this blog is not one for recommending products (and there is no reward for me in doing so), but in the current climate of trying anything to lose a few pounds, you may want to give this one a go.

Stefani Ruper is a blogger and researcher who has a lot to say on PCOS and the paleo approach to life. Her special-power (if you like) is a penchant for very heavy research - it's obvious she spends an awful lot of time reading deep scientific journals and interpreting them so that you and I don't have to.

This book is full of good advice, eating plans and good rationale for why we eat as we do and what we can do to improve things for the long term. It's sensible - there are no fads or fancy fixes here. It should also appeal to a great many people as there are both low fat and low carb options. I'm convinced that if you're suffering from PCOS that low carb is best - the effects on insulin control and therefore overall hormone stability are key to recovery, but not everyone is comfortable with that, and therefore the low fat option may be for you.

You can get the book here. Have a look and let me know what you think!
